What is HAVEN?

HAVEN (Hope, Acceptance, Validations, Equality, Nurturing) is a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and allies (LGBTQIA) youth group run by the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lehigh Valley since 2001.

HAVEN’s mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment, positive role models and peer support, as well as sponsor social and recreational activities in addition to weekly discussion meetings.

Wednesdays, 7-9 p.m.

What Activities Can I Expect?

Most activities are decided by the youth members and include:

Movie & Game Nights • Dances • Guest Speakers • Artists & Musicians • Hiking • Cultural • Events Participation in community events, such as Lehigh Valley Pride in the Park.

One of HAVEN’s biggest events is the Prizm Prom, an annual alternative prom for youth ages 14 to 20 held each May.

Who Can Attend HAVEN Meetings?

Meetings are open to anyone – GLBTQIA youth, their friends and allies and those still questioning their orientation. Straight friends who are accepting and supportive are welcome. No prejudices will be tolerated at meetings.

HAVEN is intended for youths ages 14-20.


Are Meetings Confidential?

Yes, we ask that what is shared in meeting is kept confidential.


Are Adults Present?

Meetings and planning are run by the youth, however, there is always a minimum of two trained adult volunteer facilitators to supervise all meetings and events. HAVEN also encourages parent involvement. However, to protect confidentiality, parents are not allowed at meetings. Parents are encouraged to talk with facilitators outside of the meetings.

Is This a Religious Group?

No…HAVEN is part of the UUCLV but is not a religious group and does not conflict with any other religious beliefs. All are welcome regardless of religious background.

A Group for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender & Questioning Youth

HAVEN is the social and support group for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, , and Questioning (LGBTQ) Youth Group hosted and sponsored by the UUCLV. Although part of the UUCLV, HAVEN is not a religious group. And while it does operate under UU principles, this does not conflict with any other religious beliefs. HAVEN is not about conversion and any or no religions are welcome.

Meetings and planning are run by the youth however, there will always be a minimum of two trained adult volunteer facilitators to supervise all meetings & events.

Open to LGBTQ youth, their Allies & those questioning (ages 14-20 yrs.), HAVEN’s mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment, provide positive role models and peer support, & sponsor social and recreational activities. Weekly meetings occur on Wednesdays 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at UUCLV.

 And HAVEN activities have included:

  • The Prizm Prom, an annual alternative prom for youth ages 14 to 20
  • Movie and game nights
  • Participation in community events, such as Lehigh Valley Pride in the Park
  • Hosting guest speakers, artists, & musicians
  • Educating the community about HAVEN and LGBTQ issues.

HAVEN encourages parent involvement. However, in order to protect confidentiality, parents are not allowed at meetings. They are encouraged to talk with facilitators outside of the meetings.

HAVEN is a non-profit organization. There is little cost to hold meetings. The church provides the space for free. Food served at meetings is donated. Costs to hold other events are acquired through various fundraisers & donations.  There is no charge to attend HAVEN meetings.
