7th and 8th grades: Coming of Age
starting on September 15th, 2019
As youth prepare to leave childhood, they are maturing physically, cognitively, emotionally and spiritually. This maturation opens the door for greater understanding of their faith. The Coming of Age program addresses changes in youth’s spiritual and faith development.
This program helps young teens to deepen their knowledge of Unitarian Universalism. Through interviews, mentorship, writing and discussion, they articulate their own beliefs, culminating in a trip to Boston, the birthplace of Unitarian Universalism in America, and a Coming of Age ceremony in which they articulate their credo statement. This class does not follow a regular schedule. They have several sleepovers a year, meet individually with their mentors and work together with a chaperone to execute fundraisers to help pay for the cost of their trip to Boston.
